For the Thorn Last Shot competition, competitors were allowed 5 minutes to sight at 100 yards and were then given 10 second to load and fire their last shot at Thorn Range.

The Scorers were aided by the Thorn Wind, which ensured a widespread fall of shot (including two competitors who shots landed on their sighter cards). The trophy went to E Haigh, with a shot 5.2mm from the centre.

March 19, 2017 saw the last shoot at the BSSA Thorn Range. It was a sad day, but very well attended and competitors had the finest of Thorn winds to challenge them.

Thorn Last Shot

5 minutes to sight-in at 100 yds, then 5 second exposure to fire ONE shot, closest to centre wins.
Single detail, maximum of 40 competitors.

Thorn Range will cease operation after this competition, these will be the last shots fired at Thorn Range.

Entries are now open for the 25 yd Indoor Prone Rifle Match and Air gun Match. Both to be held at the Bedford (Clapham) range on the 21st/22nd January.

The Prone Rifle Match consist of two details, each of 40 shots on NSRA 2510BM 1989 series targets – Aggregate ex 800. There will be a 50 minute break between details. Competitors are classified in four classes: BSSA ‘X’ class is made up of shooters in & previously in X Class within the past 3 years, a Nationally Classified ‘X’ Class competitors will be placed in Class ‘X’; all other competitors will be placed in three equal classes as far as possible, according to submitted average. All competitors other than ‘X’ Class are required to submit an average based on the best 5 of the last 6 indoor scores. Further details may be found here and the entry form may be downloaded here.

The Airgun match is in two competitions, one for rifle the other for pistol. The course of fire for both competitions is 60 shots. ISSF rules will be observed. Details and firing points will be allocated on a first come first served basis and will only be confirmed once the entry fee has been paid. Sunday 18th September 2016 80 SHOTS @ 50 metres
Plus optional, 50 SHOTS @ 100 yards

Central Bedfordshire Council is closing Thorn Range, to build warehouses, early in 2017. Therefore the Thorn 800 is likely to be the last Open Shoot held at the Range.

VENUE: Thorn Range, is situated 2 miles north of Dunstable just off the A5. Please
contact us if you need directions.

SQUADDING: All competitors will be squadded. The first squad will commence prompt at
10.00 am (Range will be open by 9.00 am). Each detail will be 30 minutes, 20 minutes for
shooting and 10 minutes for target changing. Squadding details will be emailed to each
competitor. Postal squadding notice can be given, if stamped address envelope is
enclosed with entry form.

RANGE COMMITTEE: All disputes shall be referred to the Range Committee and any 3 of
whom shall form a quorum.

TARGETS: N.S.R.A. 1989 series 50 metre & 100 yard targets will be used.
